Panchal Mansaram was born in India and studied at the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, India between 1954 and 1959 and at the State Academy of Fine Arts, Amsterdam, Netherlands between 1963 and 1964, on a Dutch Government Fellowship. He immigrated to Canada in the 1960s where he met Marshall McLuhan and began a long term artistic and intellectually collaborative friendship. In 1973, McLuhan wrote that "Mansaram's work presents a natural dialogue between the East and the West." Mansaram is particularly known for a type of canvas print collage which he invented as well as for his work’s distinctive representation of the hybridity of the globe through a Canadian lens. His work is in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of Mississauga, Art Gallery of Ontario, Modern Art Museum in New Delhi and other public and private collections.

The Art Gallery of Mississauga’s Permanent Art Collection boasts two large-scale mixed media works by Mansaram, and the AGM presented a retrospective in 2013.
